generation next returns with his 6th solo ep on the 7 days entertainment label titled phoenix. the ep opens with the song sundance kid, a tune that carries a high-spirited synth and bass throughout mixed in with a simple kick drum, high hat and snare combo. next up on side a is roseland, a cool, smooth house track from gn. a funky baseline accompanied with a warm piano, some complimentary synth and a clean rhythmic drum kit pattern. on the flip side, the first track is jungle 10.10.15. the recording used at the opening is from a voicemail received on the date 10/10/15. this track is pure memorization. the voice of a woman over a frantic high hat pattern and knocking kick drums. the last song of this 4 song ep is gold scorpion. a simple dance tune with high- energy percussion, piano, and kick drum. this dance floor mover will definitely be a favorite.

its not often you stumble upon a 9 piece soul band, who were so close to signing a deal with mca’s new subsidiary source records. but group politics and other factors got in the way, and the band shelved what music they had recorded. no reels surfaced but fortunately a member had kept some of those 1978 recordings. between the two seemed to fuse great soul compositions without the durge of the disco era circa 1978. with well thought out lyrics, backed by keys, trumpets and a driving bassline we really are pleased to add the group to the super disco edit roster.

don’t sleep on this, as a record crammed to a brim with such insanely tight and varied material doesn’t hit the shops often. printed on a customary 180g elusive wax and limited to a measly 300 copies it won’t stay on the shelves for long and might just cause a riot! andrey burtaev is somewhat of a gleaming, speeding meteor that is about to hit our planet big and elusive records are proud to welcome him back for his second effort for the label. right from the start of the “move on dub” we are teleported to the heart of the deepest rainforest. the humid hallucinatory mist of the opening bars subversively flows into hooks laced with explosive jitters and locked-in, dubbed up tech-house beats. the jive comes in and reasserts the reggae roots so central to andrey’s music. the track is so dense with fresh ideas – it leaves you with that rare feeling of ‘not enough’.

for the past four decades, a growing cult of soul music collectors have sought two obscure lps and a handful of extremely rare 45s released on the vanity record label lad productions, inc. between the late seventies and the mid eighties by the mysterious south side chicago singer/song writer larry dixon. larry s raw songs capture the transition from r&b to boogie-down as disco was rapidly becoming extinct. they also perfectly illustrate larry’s ability to overcome his environment and discrimination, transcended by his determination to write and produce music. with the support of his faithful musicians, larry s success was only hindered by lack of airplay and promotion, but his talent shines through. this is the story of larry dixon, his label lad productions, inc., and his friends and family throughout four decades of music in chicagos toughest neighborhoods. jerome derradji is the boogie funk division of still music to release this fantastic archive what many consider to be the holy grail of chicago funk, boogie and soul.

few can fail to have noticed the re-emergence of italian deep house in recent times. tracks paying tribute to the dreamy, loved-up and new age-influenced style pioneered by italian producers in the late 80s and early 90s are ten-a-penny these days, though few are quite as breezy and evocative as this ep from minimono. the fact that it s appearing on re-born rome label vibraphone - dormant since 1993, but brought back to life late last year - is rather fitting. the duo s dreamy, melodious and tactile style - see the fluttering synthesized flute lines and tactile grooves of -sailing-, the horizontal house bliss of -suspend-, and the ron trent style slickness of -next step- - is perfectly in keeping with the label s wavy, sun-kissed ethos.
